Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I need to spell names exactly?
- Yes. Diacritics matter and nicknames don't count — "Zack" is not "Zackary," "Khloe" is not "Khloé." Every clue's full spelling rule is printed alongside it on the Clues page.
- Is the solution printed in the book?
- No. There is no answer key, anywhere, in any edition. The Porter's Lodge is the only place that will ever confirm an answer — that is the entire point of the hunt.
- I found a copy that seems easier to solve than everyone describes. What's going on?
- Buy only through the official Amazon listing linked on this site. Counterfeit editions have been seen with shuffled or misprinted pages — which breaks the puzzle's page-based clues entirely and makes the book unsolvable, not easier. The official listing is here.
- How often can I submit an accusation?
- One accusation per act, every six hours. The Porter keeps a ledger and won't hear a repeat sooner — it discourages guessing and rewards actually working the clues.
